Hello…

My name is Helen, and I am a counsellor based in Central Scotland.

About me

My aim is to offer a space where you can feel safe and comfortable to explore and process the things in life which are worrying you or causing you difficulties.

I’m trained as a pluralistic counsellor – which means when we are working together I’ll use different approaches, depending on your goals and preferences.

Underpinning all that I do is a belief that change is possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Counselling offers a space where you can talk honestly and openly about experiences in life which are hard, and which can be difficult to navigate and process.

These might include experiences of loss and grief, relationships with family, friends or colleagues. They might also include care experience and adoption, difficulties with drugs and/or alcohol, feelings of anxiety, or loneliness, and illness (of you or someone you care about).

Exploring thoughts, feelings and behaviours in counselling can help you to process your experiences and build on strengths.

  • I’m a pluralistic counsellor, and this means that I come from the perspective that there is unlikely to be one approach that suits everyone, and that different people benefit from different things at different points in time.

An important principle of pluralism is that the counselling relationship is central, and that if you choose to work with me, our relationship will be based on collaboration, with interventions guided by your goals and preferences.

  • I have an MSc in Counselling from Abertay University and am experienced at working with people who have experienced trauma, loss, difficulties in relationships, and problems with drugs and alcohol. I also have experience of counselling adults who have been affected by adoption, and adults who are neurodivergent.

Before I became a counsellor I worked as a social worker. I was awarded my PhD in 2015 and currently work part time as a Senior Lecturer at Stirling University, teaching and researching in social work. This means that as well as being registered with the BACP, I am also registered with the SSSC.

Working at the university means I bring an understanding of some of the complexities students might face and offer a reduced rate for students (I can’t take on any social work students).

  • I offer a free 20-minute initial phone/online consultation.

Thereafter counselling sessions are an hour

Fees for counselling sessions are £75 per session.

    Students are £50 per session

I am available for in-person sessions at Bridge of Allan Counselling, or via Zoom or Teams on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
